In the UAE’s corporate sector, the procurement of safety shoes has become part of the risk management system. For HSE and procurement departments, the main task is to ensure full compliance with international safety standards.   • S1P / S3. Categories for work requiring a protective toe cap and a puncture-resistant layer; S3 also includes water-repellent properties in the upper.
  • SR. Proven slip resistance, which is essential for wet, smooth or greasy industrial surfaces.
  • HRO. The sole is resistant to contact heat up to +300°C, making it suitable for hot concrete, metal, tarmac and sand.

The mere fact that work shoes come with a certificate is only the first stage of verification. For genuine safety, it is important that safety shoes in the UAE remain comfortable throughout the entire shift.

Comfort: the ergonomics of safety footwear to combat fatigue

Comfort in work footwear is key to ensuring safety. If boots rub, cause sweating or put excessive strain on the foot, the worker instinctively looks for ways to reduce the discomfort: loosening the laces, stepping on the heel counter, or swapping their footwear for lighter, non-certified models. This is precisely how compliance is lost in practice. Key parameters of an ergonomic audit:

  • Weight. Every extra 100 grams on a pair of shoes during a shift places a significant additional strain on the leg muscles. Therefore, lightweight composite or aluminium toe caps are more effective than traditional steel ones during long working shifts.
  • Shock Absorption. Shock absorption in the heel area reduces the impact on the joints, knees and spine. This is particularly important for staff working on concrete or metal platforms.
  • Hydrothermal balance. Footwear must quickly wick heat and moisture away from the foot. If sweat builds up inside, there is an increased risk of blisters, irritation and loss of concentration.

Only a comprehensive combination of these characteristics ensures a high level of comfort without compromising the protective properties of work footwear.
