This cubic modern home was built in the heart of Burlington for our local residents whom own and run a salon in the vicinity. The exterior of the dwelling is clad in shou sugi ban siding, and corten steel .. both materials manufactured to last decades without maintenance.
A Scandinavian inspired interior is wrapped in windows at key locations to bring the outside in, and embrace the Canadian seasons.

Featuring 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, this home was completely redone on the inside and out. The exterior was re-skinned in standing seam metal roofing and siding, Maibec wood siding details, brick as well as ACM panels on the front entry feature.
The design goal was clean lines, simple yet elegant features with a scandinavian feel. Timeless and approachable modern architecture. SMPL.

This Oakville home is a bold and unique addition to the Bronte community street it stands on. The 3,700 square foot space is made to feel much larger by the open concept design and double height volume that resonates throughout the house. Features that include glass railings, walls of windows at the rear of the house and a floating staircase can be perceived and admired from nearly all vantage points. An oversized roof protruding at varied heights of the home allow it to take on a lighter presence. Locally quarried Eramosa square-cut stone shower the front of the house to add a soft yet luxurious appeal to the aesthetic. Finally, ACM panels dress the roof lines and long board siding round off the exterior finishes of the front façade. Although our clients were quite down to earth, this unique piece of architecture is out of this world.

Etobicoke’s ever-growing popularity amongst home buyers has led to the replacement of several wartime bungalows with the palatial homes that currently stand on its tree lined streets. The redevelopment of this small yet attractive lot was designed and completed with a different approach altogether. Clean lines and natural light fill the 2500-square foot home as a spacious open floor plan which was designed with the lifestyle and family dynamic of our client in mind. A sizeable kitchen with an adjoining outdoor patio space creates a strong link to the rear yard from within the house. As a personal touch for our polish born client, the metal framed and super insulated, triple paned glass windows and doors were custom fabricated in Poland. A spray foam insulated building envelope will ensure optimal energy efficiency for all seasons as compared to conventionally constructed homes. While smaller than nearby houses, this modern home is sure to rival any McMansion in comfort, efficiency and aesthetic.

After purchasing a spectacular lot in Collingwood, Ontario, these outdoor enthusiasts invited SMPL to design a house with a west coast modern feel to it. With retirement fast approaching, we wanted to plan a house with affordability, practicality and sustainability in mind -a stylish dream house that would age gracefully and that could be enjoyed effortlessly for years to come. The exterior of the home is dressed in stone, wood and steel -all durable materials that are low maintenance and aesthetically pleasing. Vaulted, multi-level ceilings accentuate the main features of the home and the grandeur of the space. Black aluminum windows spanning from floor to ceiling in the dining room invite the outdoors in as natural light abounds and the trees in the rear yard appear perfectly framed from within the house. The centerpiece of the main room is a staggering 24-foot-tall stone clad wood burning fire place that warms the space efficiently and creates a focal point for entertaining. The main floor also features the master suite and a large walk-in closet. The basement is bright and open featuring three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a wine cellar, home gym, sauna and an outdoor patio complete with a hot tub.

The SMPL team will then manage the project carefully through the municipal planning process including zoning, minor variances and site plan approvals, following that with the demolition and building permit approval phases.
