Tropical house design, Rio de Janiero, Brazil

This tropical house design was inspired by Indian architecture in Brazil, perfectly suited for the humid and hot climate of Rio de Janeiro. One of the most important element, the roof protects from the sun all the enclosed areas of the house as the open areas, acts as a big leaf. These in-between open areas represent the point of the design. These areas are the social spaces, where the owner and his guests spend most part of the time.

The generous heights of the roof, up to nine meters, allow the trade winds to pass perfectly through the house, providing passive cooling and natural ventilation both to the open and enclosed spaces. The architects see it as an eco-efficient low-tech design, where it has the most impact, the idea of the architectural design.
